What does a shadowban check on X actually measure?
It measures whether your posts still reach people who don't follow you: search, autocomplete, reply threads and recommendations. Checking your own profile tells you nothing, because restricted posts still look normal to their author.
X's own vocabulary is different. Twitter's July 2018 blog post, "Setting the record straight on shadow banning", denied the practice and defined it as making content undiscoverable to everyone except the poster. That same post admitted hundreds of thousands of accounts had briefly dropped out of search auto-suggestions. Today the company calls it limiting post visibility. Its enforcement options page, read on 16 October 2026, lists excluding a post from search results, trends and recommended notifications, removing it from the For you and Following timelines, restricting it to the author's profile and downranking it in replies. Each of those maps to one test. Search bans hide your posts from search. Suggestion bans drop your handle from autocomplete. Ghost bans, which some checkers call reply deboosting, push your replies behind "show more". Since April 2023, X says, rule-breaking posts can also carry a visible label telling the author that reach was limited.
People type this question a dozen ways: "is my twitter shadowbanned", "am i shadowbanned x", "twitter shadowban detector", "shadowban check" or plain "twitter banned check". Each one asks for the same thing, and the answer is a set of tests rather than a single verdict.
Diagnosis comes first because the fix differs. Your Reputation Solution is an account recovery and reputation firm that diagnoses X restrictions for people and brands, then helps them appeal or rebuild reach, and the steps in our guide on how to remove twitter shadow ban only help once you know which surface is hiding you.
Old habits often explain a restriction: burst-following, copy-paste replies and automation are the patterns our guide on how to avoid a shadow ban on twitter lists, and a sudden wave of fake followers, the kind a twitter bot follower checker surfaces, can drag engagement signals down too.
How to check if shadowbanned on Twitter without any tool
Use a logged-out browser and a second account, then run four tests in the same order. Manual checks take about 10 minutes and see exactly what a checker sees, with nothing to authorize.
- Search test. In a private window, search "from:yourhandle" plus a distinctive word from a post published in the last 48 hours. Hit a sign-in wall? Use a friend's account instead. No result, while the post is public, points to a search ban.
- Suggestion test. Type your display name into the search box slowly. Accounts with matching names should appear in the dropdown; when strangers with fewer followers show up and you don't, that is the suggestion signal.
- Reply test. Reply to a busy post, then open that thread from an account that doesn't follow you. Should your reply sit behind "show additional replies" while weaker replies sit above it, you're seeing reply downranking.
- Reach test. Compare impressions on posts of the same type across two seven-day windows. Drops of more than half that last beyond a week are worth investigating; one weak post is not.
Every case at Your Reputation Solution starts with these four, in this order, because the search result decides what the other three mean.
Reading the results matters more than running them. One failed test on one day proves little, because search indexing lags and ranking shifts with what other people post. What counts is the same test failing on three different posts across several days, while the posts stay public. When search and suggestion both fail, the restriction is usually account-wide; when only replies fail, a quality filter is the likelier cause. Write down the date, the post link and a screenshot for every test, since an appeal reviewer sees your claim, not your feeling. Posts marked as sensitive media are another false alarm. X's media settings page says that with the setting on, profile visitors may see a warning before viewing your account, which looks like a shadowban but is a setting you can check under Privacy and safety, then Your posts.
So "how to check shadowban on twitter", a twitter shadow ban test and "how to check if shadowbanned on x" all come down to this same list, whatever the logo says, and the same list answers "am i shadowbanned on x" too.
Reports from other users sometimes trigger a review. What X does with one is covered in our explainer on what happens when you report a twitter account, and targeted campaigns like those in guides on how to get an x account suspended tend to leave a trail of reports, not a silent filter.
Most reach drops our team sees have a dull cause: posting less, a topic that stopped trending, or a follower base thinned by an X purge. In practice, Your Reputation Solution asks for the four test results and the dated screenshots before forming any theory about who flagged an account, and roughly the first question is always whether the posts are still public.
Someone posting as you can outrank you in search, so the fix starts with a request to report a twitter account for impersonation.
Harassment piled onto your replies is a separate route, which how to report a twitter account for abuse explains.
Personal details posted in a pile-on need a request to report doxxing on twitter, and threats to leak images unless you pay call for our twitter sextortion guide before you answer. Neither problem is a shadowban.
Which Twitter shadowban checker tools are worth using in 2026?
A twitter shadowban checker can speed up the same public tests, but no tool is official and none sees X's internal flags. Pick one that needs only your handle, never your password, and treat its verdict as a lead.
Before you paste a handle anywhere, Your Reputation Solution suggests running the manual tests once, so you have a baseline to hold the tool's answer against.
| Tool (as of October 2026) | Tests it claims | Login asked |
|---|---|---|
| shadowban.yuzurisa.com | search, suggestion, ghost, reply | handle only |
| Shadowban Scanner (browser extension) | status shown under posts and profiles | installs in your browser |
| SuperX shadowban checker | from: search visibility | handle only |
| Circleboom | account health checks | X account connection (OAuth) |
Every checker runs the same public queries you can run by hand, which is why their verdicts disagree. Behind the button, a twitter shadowban tester sends a search for your recent posts, checks the autocomplete endpoint and loads a reply thread, then labels each result. Shadowban.eu, which the yuzurisa page credits as its origin, was the best-known version, and the yuzurisa page we loaded on 16 October 2026 rendered only placeholder text, so a blank result there may be the tool failing, not you. Its developer says the Shadowban Scanner extension passed 48,000 users with its v4.0.2 release in December 2025. SuperX labels its own output as indicative and not an official X signal. None of these can read the labels X stores internally, and a 2021 IEEE INFOCOM study by Le Merrer, Morgan and Trédan, which crawled more than 2.5 million profiles, had to infer shadowbanning statistically for exactly that reason. Run one checker, confirm by hand, and keep both results.
We see the same searches arrive in every word order: "shadowban check twitter", "twitter shadowban check", "twitter shadow ban checker", "shadow ban checker twitter", "shadowban tester twitter", "twitter check shadowban" and "check shadowban twitter". Mobile-era versions read "x shadowban test", "shadowban test x", "x shadowban check", "shadowban check x", "x shadow ban check" and "x shadow ban checker", plus "twitter shadowban tester" and "shadow ban check twitter". Same tools, same limits.
Any tool asking for your password, a login code or a fee to "unlock" the result is a scam, and Your Reputation Solution tells clients to close that tab. Paid unban upsells inside checkers follow the same playbook as the sellers in our guide on how to report a scam seller on ebay.
Anyone offering to restrict someone else's reach is selling the reverse of this check; our breakdown of the x ban service market explains what is real there. Rare names attract fake checkers too, so buyers of rare twitter handles should verify a handle's history by hand.
Sellers often ask how much is my twitter handle worth before listing it, and the price drops when search hides it.
Other platforms hide moderation just as well. Twitch keeps quiet on does twitch tell you who reported you, and YouTube answers if you report someone on youtube is it anonymous with a yes.
Am I banned on X, or only shadowbanned?
You are banned on X if you see a notice when you log in; a shadowban never shows one. Suspensions, locks and read-only limits all announce themselves, while visibility limits only show up in tests or post labels.
No twitter ban checker can tell you this, because ban states live inside your own session. X's locked or limited account help page, read on 16 October 2026, describes each one. Locked accounts get a message asking for verification by phone, email or captcha. Limited accounts can browse but cannot post, repost or like, and only followers see their past posts. Suspended accounts show a suspension notice and an appeal link. So "am i banned on x", "is my twitter account banned", "x ban check" and "x ban checker" are answered by logging in on the official app and reading the banner, not by a third-party site. No banner, everything working, but strangers can't find you? That is shadowban territory, and the tests above apply. Where X labels a single post with limited visibility, that label carries its own appeal option, narrower than a full account appeal. Locks and limits are reversible far more often than suspensions are.
Not sure which state your account is in? Send Your Reputation Solution the four test results and your screenshots through our free case review, and a specialist will tell you whether it looks like a visibility limit, a lock or a suspension.
Locked out after a phone-number challenge? Start with how to recover locked twitter account access, then read the twitter account recovery process for the full set of forms.
Suspensions change the order of events. Appeal steps for that case, including how to appeal shadowban twitter restrictions, sit in our X recovery guide. We prepare the evidence and file the appeal through X's own forms; X alone decides the outcome.
Lost your login details along the way? The twitter account recovery forgot email steps cover that, or twitter account recovery without phone number if the number is gone too.
Accounts that vanished rather than went quiet raise a different question: did you deactivate it? Whether you can recover deleted twitter account after 30 days depends on that date, and long silences have their own rules in the twitter inactive account policy.
Sometimes the problem is content, not reach: posts copied from your work can be pulled with a twitter copyright report, and a brand name misused by another account goes through a twitter trademark infringement report.
Where a harmful post stays up after reports, twitter content removal covers the escalation routes. What we won't do is promise that any appeal lifts a restriction, sell checker "unbans" or ask for your login. We never request passwords or verification codes, we do not file reports to restrict someone else's reach, and the limits of our work are set out in our disclaimer. Retest after every change you make, because a restriction that lifted quietly is still worth a dated screenshot.
